Samsung Galaxy Fame reviews as a budget device which packs Jelly Bean OS, NFC, optional dual sim and a 5 MP camera. It looks as a successor of Samsung Galaxy Ace although Galaxy Ace 2 does possess almost the same features as Galaxy Fame. But Galaxy Fame has some new offering too which will be unfolded as we go through its review. It will also face competition with Samsung Galaxy Young which was announced recently.
Samsung Galaxy Fame Review and Features:
After the success of Galaxy Ace, Samsung has brought Galaxy Fame to provide the same experience and features Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, 3.5” TFT display, 1 GHz processor, 5 MP camera, GPS and 1300 mAh battery. The available color is white.
Operating system and Processor
There is the latest Android v4.1(Jelly Bean) OS in Samsung Galaxy Fame. It packs a single core processor of 1 GHz.
Design and Build
The design reminds of the Samsung Galaxy S3 with a white polycarbonate body. It feels light in hands and the looks are worthy of the money we are paying here. A metallic strip running around the edge of Galaxy Fame gives it a premium look.It measures 113.2×61.6×11.6 mm and this dimension makes it easy to hold in hand.
Display Dimension and Weight
The display is small with display size of 3.5 inches and TFT capacitive touchscreen. Though the resolutionis low with 320×480 pixels, but it cannot be differentiated in a small screen. So, the screen of Galaxy Fame looks decent though it won’t be suitable for movie watching. It has a pixel density of 165 ppi and weighs just 120.6g.
The main difference between Samsung Galaxy Fame and Samsung Galaxy Young is in the camera. Galaxy Fame has a 5MP primary camera which does pretty well for taking snaps. It features geo tagging, LED flash, autofocus, touch focus and face detection. The video is VGA@25fps. There is a VGA secondary camera.
Internal Memory and Extendable Memory
There is no shortage of memory. Its internal memory is 4 GB internal with 512 MB RAM. you would be surprised to hear that Galaxy Fame has expandable memory upto 64 GB using micro SD memory card.
The presence of NFC makes it worth the money and this will enable Samsung Galaxy Fame to share data and connect to the new Samsung HomeSync device. Other connectivity features are Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n WLAN, Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP, microUSB 2.0,GPRS and EDGE.
It has standard Li-Ion 1300 mAH battery. Though power is low for Galaxy Fame, it may be sufficient to be used for a day.
The various features of Galaxy Fame are SNS integration, stereo FM Radio, Google search and maps,MP3 player, organizer, image/ video editor, document viewer, voice memo, etc.
Price and Availability of Samsung Galaxy Fame
The announcement was done in February,2013. Samsung Galaxy Fame is expected in the first quarter of 2013. Its price is approximated around Rs. 10,000 or $185 and it can be less also.
While the features of Samsung Galaxy Fame are not such great, but there are sufficient specs for a decent usage for someone who wants all the basic Android features in a budget price. It will be targeted for the budget conscious and youth. With this price segment, it will have a tough competition with the recently announced Galaxy Young, LG Optimus L5 II and LG Optimus L3 II.
