Nokia Lumia 720 is the latest smartphone from mobile communications forerunner Nokia. In a recent report by WMPowerUser.com, Nokia Germany has started the official market release of the 720 last 15 April. Both the 720 and Lumia 520 were launched in the Moblie World Congress (MWC) held in Barcelona, Spain as reported by CNet Germany.

Operating System and Processor
The Nokia Lumia 720 runs on the Windows 8 OS, the latest operating system from Microsoft. It also has a Qualcomm dual-core 1GHz processor, which is perfect for loading heavy applications. Nokia has been lagging behind in terms of having a competitive OS in comparison to the iOS and Android. According to Maxxor.com, Nokia only has an 8% market share in Germany as compared to the 35% of iOS and 29% of Android. With apps being developed by many websites like social media leaders Facebook and Instagram, and with others still developing better mobile access to their services like online gaming hub

The camera can also be used for video recording. It has an 8GB internal memory and 512 MB RAM. The card slot allows up to 64GB of extra memory. Connectivity-wise, features include WLAN standards IEEE 802.11 b / g / n, USB 2.0, Bluetooth 3.0 and NFC support. CNET reports, “both devices also sparks in 2G and 3G networks and allow mobile data connections thanks to HSPA with download rates of up to 21 Mbit/s.”

Verdict
The phone is a little pricey for Nokia standards that is, €379 (about $495) including taxes, according to PhoneArena.com’s report {Nokia Lumia 720 and Lumia 520 get a price tag in Germany}. Features are decent for an average phone user, but aficionados will be slightly disappointed in some aspects. Overall, the Nokia Lumia 720 is a good phone with average specifications.

HTC One is the new flagship smartphone from HTC and is being reviewed as taking a step further in the innovation of the smartphones. The 4.7” HD screen has an all aluminium body and runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS. It looks to bring back the glory of the HTC with this new device that it enjoyed with its Desire series and HTC One X.

Some of the innovative features that define HTC One are:

Although you may be surprised to hear that HTC One has only 4 MP camera sensor, but HTC packs larger pixels so that more light can be allowed. After a lot of rumours and endless speculations, Samsung Galaxy S4 was finally unveiled in New York. The first reviews and specifications have come in for Galaxy S4. The market was abuzz and Galaxy S4 was launched in US soil which is the home ground for Apple. This time, Galaxy S4 will be coming with all major U.S. service providers. It release date is in 55 countries at the end of April including countries like India, U.S., Brazil, etc.

The design of Samung Galaxy S4 looks similar to Galaxy S3 and comes in two colors of white and black livery. The phone is more flattened and is sleeker and lighter than Galaxy S3. But do not expect to see a radical change in this new flagship. Though the screen size is bigger of 5 inches, the length is still same. It has 5-inch1080p display and is being called as “full HD Super AMOLED” with 441 ppi pixel density. It has Corning Corilla Glass3 Protection.

It is one of the few to get Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS when it will be released in April. Samsung Galaxy S4 sports two types of processors – one is 1.9 GHz quad-core processor and the other is 1.6 GHz octa-core processor. Its not known yet that which region will be getting quad core and octa-core. It has 2 GB RAM making operations super fast.

The camera is a 13 MP primary one for Galaxy S4 while the secondary camera is of 2 MP. This time, Samsung has devised some interesting features in Galaxy S4. The primary camera is capable of taking 100 shots in 4 seconds and then consolidate them to form an image without photo bombs. “Sound and Shot” feature of Galaxy S4 allows you to record audio before you take a snap. Then there is “dual camera” mode where Galaxy S4 takes snap with both front and rear camera and then merges into one.

It has connectivity features of  WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP, LTE Cat3 and NFC. There is comeback of remote control features and Galaxy S4 has IR blaster becoming one of them.Thus the Samsung Galaxy S4 specifications of a powerful processor allows for faster browsing. The battery power is 2600 mAh making a wholesum amount of power for this huge device.

1)      Smart Pause–It will pause a playing video if you look away from the screen and it will resume when you return to look at the screen.

2)      Smart Scroll –Here Galaxy S4 lets you move through web pages even when you are not looking.

3)      S Voice Drive –It takes voice commands for you and operates as commanded. This will help in case you cannot use your hands as in while driving and can give voice commands to Galaxy S4 and it will oblige.

4)      Optical Reader –It is used on business cards. Galaxy S4 can perform operations such as calling the number on the card or translating the text.

5)      WatchON – It enables IR blaster so that you can use Galaxy S4 as a remote for controlling other devices.

6)      Group Play –This is interesting as you can combine various phones to use them as a stereo speaker and play music with it.

7)      S Health –This is an excellent software developed by Samsung. It can sense your fitness level and monitor the surroundings. You can use it to follow your fitness regime, there is also the ability to combine with other Samsung accessories.

8)      Air View – You can read messages or see images etc. by just hovering your finger over the screen. You don’t have to actually touch it.

After the launch of Samsung Galaxy S4 in U.S. Samsung is looking to capitalize the U.S market and out number Apple. Samsung REX 90 is the top end phone in the range of JAVA based feature phones that was released recently.The other phones in this series are REX 80, REX 70 and REX 60. It features dual SIM with Smart dual SIM feature along with True Hot Swap.

Samsung REX 90 Review and Specifications:

We review the features of Samsung REX 90 as having 3.5 inch TFT display, 10 MB internal memory expandable upto 32 GB, 3.15 MP camera and 1000 mAh battery. The available color is white and brown in this model.

Operating system and Processor

It has proprietary Java based OS. Samsung REX 90 has 312 MHz chip and doesn’t quite compete with 1 GHz processor of Nokia Asha feature phones.

Design And Build

The design of  Samsung REX 90 is similar to the Galaxy line giving it an impressive look. The chrome finish along the edges gives a premium look. The height and width are 113and 61.9 mm respectively.It has a thickness of 11.9mm thus giving a sleek look.

Display Dimension

Thescreen size is 3.5 inches with TFT full touchscreen display.The resolution isless of 320×480 pixels with 165 ppi pixel density. Thus REX 90 does not impress us with its display but its decent enough for common usage.

Camera Configuration

There is a basic camera in REX 90 of 3.15 MP. There is no LED flash or auto focus. It can be used for taking snaps here and there and takes decent pics. The timer, night mode, white balance, etc. is present in it as you would expect in any Java phone. There is video recording too. It has no secondary camera.

Internal Memory and Extendable Memory

It has very less internal memory of  just 10 MB. But REX 90 does possess a microSD memory card slot with which you can expand memory upto 32 GB.

Connectivity and Dual Sim

In connectivity option, REX 90 has WiFi b/g/n, Bluetoothv3.0, microUSB 2.0, GPRS and EDGE for 2G. There is no 3G. Samsung REX 90 has hot swap too for its secondary Sim card which can be replaced without the need to remove the battery. It also has Smart Dual Sim feature in which you can receive calls from sim1 although sim2 is in use. There is the option of switching between the sim cards is also there from the home screen.

Power Management

It  has a standard Li-Ion 1000 mAH battery which should be sufficient for the operations of REX 90.

Other features

The UI that runs on REX 90 is Samsung Touchwiz UI. It performs well but not very smooth. A drop down bar is also there as in present in Android which has toggles for WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.Widgets such as clock, weather, etc are also there. It has various apps such as calendar, alarm, voice recorder, download manager, etc. Ther is ChatON, Gtalk, Facebbok, Twitter, Picassa, etc. also present by default.

Samsung REX 90 Price and It’s Availability

The announcement was done in February, 2013 and REX 90 has been released in March, 2013. It is priced at Rs.6,490 or $120.

Verdict

After the above review, Samsung REX 90 comes as a good design with dual sim feature. But it lacks 3G and multitasking. The recently announced Nokia Asha 310 has also the same features as REX 90 and will be giving it a tough competition. The price factor is also under consideration as Rs.6,490 is quite high for a feature phone when we can get Android phones at the same or little more in other brands. Unless prices drop, it doesn’t seem it will be getting success.
